Have questions about how meal plans work?
Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions to help you make the most of your dining experience.
FAQ
What are the Dining Dollars?
This supplementary currency can be used to purchase any food item within our dining locations, and the best part is they are tax-free! Dining Dollars provide flexibility and convenience for students looking to customize their meal plans. Whether you want to add a little extra to your daily meals or indulge in specific retail combos, Dining Dollars are the perfect solution.
In addition to their versatility, Dining Dollars can also be combined with a Meal Swipe to access Meal Exchange options, offering even more variety and value. If you're curious about the specific Meal Exchange choices available, you can find a comprehensive list on our website.
When considering your meal plan options, don't forget to check out the Meal Plan Pricing section to see how many Dining Dollars are included with each plan. It's important to note that while Dining Dollars will roll over from the Fall to Spring semester when purchasing a new meal plan, they will not carry over from Spring to Fall. So make sure to make the most of your Dining Dollars each semester to enjoy all the delicious dining options available on campus!
Can I add more Dining Dollars?
No, additional Dining Dollars cannot be added once a meal plan is purchased. If you live on campus and are unsure how many Dining Dollars you'll need, we recommend choosing a plan with a higher amount to start. You can use this semester’s experience to better plan for the next.
Leftover Dining Dollars will carry over from Fall to Spring if a Spring meal plan is purchased.
If you need more spending flexibility during the semester, you can add Herd Points to your ID. While Herd Points are accepted at most campus dining locations, they are not tax-free like Dining Dollars and cannot be used for Meal Exchange.
What are Herd Points?
Herd Points are a campus currency that can be added to your ID card online or at designated machines around campus. They can be used to purchase food, drinks, and other items on campus and come with a 10% discount at retail dining locations.
Please note: Herd Points cannot be used for Meal Exchange.
What are Anytime Meals?
Anytime Meals provide students with the flexibility to enjoy additional meals without worrying about their regular weekly meal plan limits. These meals offer a safety net, allowing students to dine on campus even if they have used up all their regular meal swipes. It's a convenient option for those who may occasionally exceed their meal plan allocation or need extra meals during busy weeks. By having Anytime Meals available, students can feel more secure in managing their meal plan budget and focus on their academic and personal responsibilities without the stress of running out of dining options.
Can I use my swipes on others?
Sharing meal swipes with other students and family members can be a great way to make use of your meal plan and ensure that everyone is well-fed. Just remember, it's crucial to keep track of your swipe count to ensure you have enough for yourself as well. Enjoy sharing good food and good company with those around you while making the most of your meal plan benefits!
How do I check my balance?
The easiest way is to look at your eAccount where your Marshall ID is located on your phone. If the information does not show up here, you can also view the information in your browser. Dining Dollars balance will always print on a receipt when it is used to make a purchase and a full balance check, including meal swipe balance, can be requested at each register.
How do I determine my savings?
This depends on a variety of factors and is why the Meal Plan Picker can be helpful. For a direct comparison with Harless door prices, you can determine the cost/swipe of a meal plan using the formula: (Price-Dining Dollars)/Total Meals.
Example
- 14/Week + $500 Dining Dollars = $2,507
- ($2507 (Price) - $500 (Dining Dollars)/224 (Total Meals)
- $2007/224 = $8.96 per meal swipe
With the Harless Lunch price at $11.00 + tax, this meal plan would save at least $2/lunch with even more savings for dinner. It is important to find the plan that works best for you, so take the time to compare prices and the convenience of pre-made meals.
